Humans are the only creatures on earth that s 'enquièrent the meaning of life. Three main issues concern us: Where we come from? Why do we live? Where are we going? Many people have tried to answer these questions. The German philosopher Hans Lenk said at the outset that we do not expect answers from the philosopher: "Philosophy rarely provides definitive answers substantive. She is interested in the abstract, not the material things or the outcome. For her, it is much more important to discover a new perspective on issues that give partial answers to a question. "The French writer Blaise Cendrars wrote:" ... the absurd life that stirs his donkey ears "and Andre Malraux:" This hostel without roads called life. "For Marcel Ayme," life, it always ends badly. "quote again the words of Simone de Beauvoir and Jean-Paul Sartre, an atheist and advocate of existentialism:" What is the meaning of life, if it must end in a nil radical? Why have you been? Ultimately, everything is absurd: the beauty of life, human works, everything. Life itself is absurd. "Even science such as psychology, biology, medicine can not give satisfactory answers because the questions are not within their purview.
For many, the meaning of life is:
- to do good. They are legion, those who harbor such a humanist philosophy, not specifically Christian. Certainly, it is also recommended for Christians to do good (Gal 6:10, 2 Th 3:13), but it does not become a Christian by doing good.
- to make oneself: the athlete will make every effort to win a world title or an Olympic medal, and the artist seek glory on the stages of this world.
- to leave a lasting imprint. Some are perpetuated through their offspring or by philanthropic associated with their name. Others want to let the memory of their time on earth in poems, memoirs or diaries.
But let us honor the land are ephemeral. After our death we will draw no more no advantage, because where we go, "we will not participate anymore in everything that happens on earth" (Ec 9:6).
Since our lives are created by God, it will only be meaningful if it is lived with God and led by him. The human heart, even filled all the goods of this world, still worried, empty and dissatisfied, if not based in God. Let us examine this from God gives meaning to our lives. We limit ourselves to three main points:
- God sets the first goal in our lives the salvation by faith. Without faith in the Lord Jesus, we "lost" in other words we do not know where we go, our life has no meaning. It's so important that the Apostle Paul made the cornerstone of its response to the Philippian jailer, "Believe on the Lord Jesus and thou shalt be saved, and thy house" (Acts 16:31). For God, "desires all men to be saved and come to know the truth" (1 Timothy 2:4). Because the salvation of the soul takes precedence over health body, Jesus first said to the paralytic, 'Your sins are forgiven "(Mt 9:2).
- Once saved, we must serve God: "Give God a joyful worship, go to him with cries of joy" (Psalm 100:2). Because we have become disciples of Jesus, our life must invite those around us to become as disciples (Matt. 28:19).
- "You must love your neighbor as yourself" (Mt 22:39). By giving us this commandment, God does not ask us to love only those who are far away, in South Africa or Latin America, but to show our love at first to those living around us, our most loved ones: spouse, children, parents, neighbors, coworkers. That everyone loves himself, of course, but must also love to go in the direction of the next.
The Bible considers that everything we have done in faith, including the practice of the things contained in paragraphs 2 and 3 above, will be the fruit of our lives. Unlike all the passengers success, the fruit remains (Jn 15:16). God expects to reap at the end of our lives and ask us how we did grow the talent he has given us (the life, time, money, gifts, Lk 19:11-27) . Even the glass of cold water that we have given the name of Jesus has an eternal (Matt. 10:42).
